IVECO (Industrial Vehicle European Company) is one of the newest truck manufacturers in the world, since 1975 it has turned from a truck manufacturing department of the FIAT holding company into a leading industrial diesel engine and truck manufacturers. Over the years, Iveco, merging several smaller manufacturers, has become a subsidiary of the industry giant - the company FIAT - who owns 19 production and assembly workshops in Europe not to mention the factories producing vehicle components.

Globally Iveco is one of the most dynamic companies. It is important that it is a transnational company producing vehicles that are adjusted to the requirements of various markets where Iveco sells its products.

History:

Iveco was founded in 1975 as a result of the merger of the French truck manufacturer UNIC, popular German fire-engine and special vehicle manufacturer Magirus and Italian companies FIAT V.I. (buses, towing vehicles), Lancia V.S. (construction site and military vehicles) and OM (towing vehicles).

In 1977 Iveco took over the company Orlandi (Italy) that produced luxury buses. At the beginning of the 1980s the company purchased the company SAUER - the Swiss producer of diesel engines and construction site vehicles.

The year of 1986 became very important for Iveco because then the company purchased 100% shares in such companies as FORT Truck Ltd. (Great Britain) and ASTRA (a popular manufacturer of construction site vehicles in Italy and Southern Europe). One year later the German company BACHERT that was the greatest competitor of the firm Magirus in the sphere of fire-engine and fire-fighting equipment manufacturing sold its shares to Iveco. In 1989 Iveco purchased one of the last independent bus manufacturers in Italy - SICCA.

In the early 1990s Iveco purchased and took over the pride of the Spanish vehicle producers - Enasa Pegaso - that had been carefully protected by General Franco and one of the last props of the British vehicle manufacturers - Seddon Atkinson.
